    Like those who sell stocks and bonds, Massachusetts Democrats might want to attach that warning to future campaign commercials. For despite all the talk from the Deval Patrick side prior to the 2006 election about how having a Republican governor and Democratic Legislature was bad for business on Beacon Hill, the results in the session just ended was simply more of the same.

    There were some minor initiatives that managed to make it from committee to floor vote, to the governor's desk. But nothing like the measure mandating universal coverage that former Republican Governor Mitt Romney put together, in collaboration with the Democratic Senate president and House speaker, and signed into law in April of 2006.   • ( ) Expenses go online

    The Toronto Catholic District School Board plans to post trustees' expenses online to curb abuse of school credit cards and expense accounts, officials told the Sun.

    As revealed in the Sunday Sun, Trustee Christine Nunziata billed taxpayers for Caribbean vacations, booze bills and expensive steak dinners, pizza delivery and even Tim Hortons coffee.

    But Nunziata isn't the only trustee at the board who submitted questionable bills or ran afoul of school board expense policies.

    North York Trustee Maria Rizzo had a number of expenses flagged by the external audit.

    Rizzo admits to a Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort trip to Montego Bay last February, but says a $1,340 charge to her school board credit card is "fraudulent". . More>>
