Argos accepted more grouper than they really wanted but the grouper did help to make up the 401.75 tonnes total for the year.     ALBANY — Like so many across the country, Albany retailers were busy Wednesday preparing for Friday, the heaviest retail day of the year.

    Although reports point to a challenging holiday shopping season, nationally, November and December sales are expected to reach $474.5 billion, compared with $456.2 billion in 2006, the National Retail Federation predicts. At an estimated 4 percent increase, the 2007 sales are expected to fall short of a 10-year average of 4.7 percent annual increases.

    “Retailers are in for a somewhat challenging holiday season as consumers are faced with numerous economic obstacles,” NRF Chief Economist Rosalind Wells stated in a news release. “With the weak housing market and current credit crunch, consumers will be forced to be more prudent with their holiday spending.”
